Simply download the Echo Meter Touch app, connect the Echo Meter Touch Module to your Android or iOS device, and you’ll be ready to detect bats. Listen to, record and view their ultrasonic echolocation calls on a colorful, interactive spectrogram. Echo Meter Touch 2 can even suggest the most likely species you detect.
There are thousands of bat species in the world, each with its own slightly different type of echolocation call. Every time you watch for a bat, Echo Meter Touch listens for it and processes the sound using highly complex, proprietary algorithms called “classifiers”. In a split second, Echo Meter Touch shows you the most likely species of bat flying overhead. You can click on each species to learn more. Currently, Echo Meter Touch can identify bat species from North America, the Neotropics, the U.K., Europe and South Africa. (320) 446-8978
Bat echolocation calls are ultrasonic â out of the range of human hearing. The Echo Meter Touch combines a special microphone with sophisticated circuitry and software to transform ultrasonic bats calls into audio that you can hear. Echo Meter Touch displays the bat calls on an interactive, scientific-level spectrogram. You can pause the audio, zoom in on each recording, and listen to it in more detail using one of three professional-level listening modes: Real-Time Expansion, heterodyne, and post-recording time expansion.
Professional bat biologists use Echo Meter Touch to create libraries of bat calls for research. Now, you can create a library too. Bring your Echo Meter Touch on evening walks and trips into the wilderness. Your library of bat sounds will grow along with your knowledge, understanding and appreciation of bats. Every recording is tagged with GPS coordinates and displayed via Google Maps. It’s a fun way to see where you’ve been, and the bats you discovered there.
We created Echo Meter Touch 2 for people interested in bats and biology â and for professionals who need a convenient detector for basic bat surveys and research work. The more advanced PRO model offers an ultra-quiet, highly sensitive microphone, along with software features designed specifically for advanced bat research.
Below are the specifications for each model. Choose the one that‘s right for your needs.

In the field of biology, there are many ways to study and understand the natural world. Our focus is acoustics: The many, and varied sounds made by every species on Earth â birds, bats, frogs, insects, dolphins and whales, just to name a few. The sounds they create are clues into their behavior and populations. Our products help biologists study wildlife everywhere on Earth â remote and urban jungles, forests and deep under the sea. Our recorders collect gigabytes of valuable data each day, and our software tools help biologists analyze all of that data â all toward the goal of helping science, industry, and governments understand and protect Earth’s wildlife.
